The Best Time to Visit Brisbane

The climate and weather in Brisbane is subtropical and almost similar to the monsoonal weather of the Asian tropics.  This is because the city is located in the Southern hemisphere and you can expect the springs to begin as early as September. The Brisbane summers begin as early as December, the autumn begins in March while the city’s winter starts in the month of June.

The Brisbane Summer

summer in brisbaneThe hottest months in Brisbane begin from the late November and stretch all the way to early March. The months of January and February are among the hottest with temperatures hitting average highs of 30 degrees Celsius.  These months also have very high humidity levels and experience the heaviest downpours. At the peak of the Brisbane summers, temperatures can go as high as 34 or 35 degrees Celsius but most of the summer days have temperatures hovering at between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius.  Brisbane’s Western suburbs are usually hotter than the city itself. As you move further away from the Brisbane coast, the humidity level drops considerably. From the month of October all the way to February, there is an increase in thunderstorms and torrential rains which are most intense between the months of December and February.  The worst storms occur between October and December where there are some severe storms and powerful gusts of wind.

Light clothing such as shorts and light shirts is preferable for the summer climate in Brisbane.  The combination of heat and humidity can make for a very sweaty days when you are holidaying in Brisbane.  You will experience the worst heat and humidity in mid January and mid-February. Pack some sunscreen when visiting Brisbane especially if you are coming from the colder parts of the world.  If you are not used to the hot temperatures, you are likely to spend time recuperating from the heat waves.

The Brisbane Autumn

The Brisbane Autumn begins from the month of March but the temperatures are still considerably warmer compared to the autumn that you are more used to.  The early days of March in fact still feel like summer due to the considerable heat.  The climate and weather in Brisbane, however, grows cooler towards the end of March and the beginning of April when the change in temperature can be felt.  The autumns are considerably cooler and less humid and are some of the best months to visit the city. The thunderstorms are gone but you can still experience some light showers.

The winter

The Brisbane winters are considerably warm and dry. Visitors coming from the Northern hemisphere would be better off visiting the city during the autumns and the winter due to the general cooler temperatures.  The nighttime during the winters can be cold and it is therefore important to carry some cardigans.


The Brisbane Spring begins in September. The climate and weather in Brisbane is dominated by westerly winds and relatively stable weather before the onset of summer.  The skies are clearer and there is ample sunshine in the city.  Humidity levels are still low but days begin to get warmer towards early October.
